Brianna Martins Rings in the Bell at NYMEX

Eight-year-old Brianna Martins who attends The Children Center, a program of United Cerebral Palsy of Suffolk was invited by New York Mercantile Exchange Chairman Richard Schaeffer to ring the opening bell on May 19. NYMEX had her name in lights on the trading floor and created her personal nametag.
In early May someone took Brianna’s Rifton pacer, a customized walker that provides her with mobility, from her driveway. UCP Suffolk contacted the manufacturer, who graciously donated a new one to the family. Due to the outpouring of support from members of the community, Brianna’s Fund was created. (Click on Brianna’s Fund for more information.)
One of those callers was Robert Livingstone, a trader at NYMEX, who offered his support. On May 19, NYMEX traders, clerks and staff dressed down to raise money for UCP Suffolk’s Brianna Fund, which will help fulfill the needs of individuals with disabilities enrolled in the UCP Suffolk programs.
Pictured at the bell ringing are from left, are family friend Peter Rodriguez, mother, Melissa Martins, Brianna, NYMEX Chairman Richard Schaeffer, trader Robert Livingstone, UCP Executive Director Stephen H. Friedman and UCP Director of Development Marsha Gittleman.
