RESPITE

HISTORY

Since 1986, United Cerebral Palsy Association of Greater Suffolk. Inc. has provided respite services through the auspices of the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (formerly OMRDD). Presently, this program serves 75 individuals.

GOAL

The goal of the program is to provide the opportunity for time away from the daily responsibility of caregiving for a family member with a disability.

ELIGIBILITY

Any individual with a developmental disability who resides in Suffolk County.

OPTIONS

OPTION # 1 - Respite Coordinator assigns a worker to the family. Family and worker plan and agree upon duties and schedules. Parents are requested to pay $1.00 per hour and the agency pays the remainder.

OPTION # 2 - The family screens and hires the worker. Payment arrangement, duties and schedules are arranged by family. Parents receive reimbursement up to pre-determined designated amount.

HOW TO ACCESS

Please call the Respite Coordinator at 232-0011, ext. 415.
