Spring Appeal
...And Without Limits?

Abel is 5 1/2 years old and was born with cerebral palsy. He came to UCP Suffolk three years ago, non-verbal and non-ambulatory and began his journey toward experiencing Live Without Limits.

Without limits to educational opportunities, Abel can learn the lessons of childhood, and the basic skills necessary to continue acquiring knowledge. At the UCP Suffolk Children's Center Abel receives individualized instruction at his own pace. Adaptive technology and speech therapy ease his communication and he's even learning sign language.

Without limits to mobility Abel can explore the world. The physical and occupational therapy that are art of Abel's daily UCP program, combined with specialized equipment, enable him to become more independent each day. Through continued use of this training and technology, Abel can go anywhere.

Without limits to medical care, Abel can lead a full, healthy life. The UCP Suffolk Health Center offers primary and specialty medical care, dental and mental health and therapeutic treatment, all in a fully accessible, spacious, environmentally friendly site.

Without limits to his living options, Abel can eventually move out of his parents' home and may choose to live with peers in a beautiful UCP Suffolk operated residence. Located throughout Suffolk County, UCP's 29 homes create new families, with full time support and assistance, and are well integrated into their surrounding communities.

Without limits to creativity, Abel can enjoy painting, photography, poetry, music or performing. Simple and high-tech devices can facilitate holding a paint brush or camera, can translate an eye blink to a written word, or the slightest movement into the sound of a symphony.

It just takes HOPE and hard work on his part, and HELP from friends like you to ensure the therapies, the treatment, the training, and the technology that will make Life Without Limits a reality, and ensure that Abel is able.
