DAY TREATMENT
Day Treatment strives to increase the independence
of individuals with disabilities who are over 21 years of age, including
seniors, by providing life enrichment programs.
An average of 125 adults with developmental disabilities
(epilepsy, mental retardation, neurological symptoms and
cerebral palsy), ambulatory and non-ambulatory attend UCP's Day
Treatment Program in Hauppauge. Several of the program
participants are involved in the MOVE (Mobility
Opportunities via Education) Program, which teaches basic
motor skills such as sitting, standing and walking. Specially designed
equipment is utilized to assist with these movements.
Referred by government agencies, school districts,
physicians and families, participants receive care in groups of
15 or 16 with two or three program aides and one habilitation specialist
assigned to each program room. Clinical support staff is also readily
